Anyway, this morning and through the heart of the day the heat was downright oppressive. I had some banana bread for breakfast and finished up some tasks that needed finishing. It was a quiet day for the most part... hiding from the sun during the noon time hours. Among the things done, we booked two seats to see Axis of Awesome in the Opera House tomorrow. Ill explain and give details on that tomorrow.
As the core of the day past we headed out on a walk through the town center. We headed north to St. Mary's Cathedral. There was a vigil going on so we couldn't go inside. However, we walked around the outside, and as the sun lowered the shadows and light made the sandstone church quite magnificent. While we were looking at the front/exploring the gardens that lead to the entrance, I saw a bird land in a nearby tree, which I was able to identify as a Kookaburra! So that was cool.
Afterwards Margaret headed back to the hostel and I continued north through the city towards the harbor bridge. My hope was that I could go to the observatory. While en route I spent a long time exploring restaurant options for Margaret's birthday. Anyway, whens finally climbed the hill to the observatory there was a wedding party there so I could not go snide. Sadface. But it was not all a complete waste. I got there just in time to see the sun set over the western side of the harbor. I'd hoped to have a view of the opera house, but unfortunately the view was confined to the harbor and city west of the bridge. That said, I could see ALL of the city to the west of the bridge, or close enough too it. Also... its funny... now that I've seen the bats, I see them everywhere.
Anyway, I then walked back to the hostel. Having now escaped the noon day sun I've been walking in 95 degree evening, so I was ready to sit and relax. On the roof of the hostel I met up with Margaret and some people from england we've been rooming with and had a bit of a barbecue.
Margaret is overly excited to turn 18, so we may go to the beech tonight with our english friends... we'll see. Either way, it was a good (hot) day.
